Burundian female rescued from trafficking

{The police boss, IGP Emmanuel K Gasana has said that an operation carried on Wednesday rescued a Burundian female who was being trafficked to Uganda.}

The operation curfew was organized under the East African Countries program dubbed ‘Usalama’ where each EAC country had to concentrate on local checking.

He has said this during a dialogue that has brought together various institutions across the country including ministries, non-governmental organizations, districts and the parliament.

“ The worry is that we have seized 17 units of heroin from a Congolese in Gikondo along with 19 people. Regarding the case of human trafficking we have rescued a female Burundian being trafficked to Uganda,” he said.

The operation also seized 3000 liters of illicit brew, 18kilograms of cannabis and car of Pick in Rukomo of Gicumbi district transporting Kanyanga from Uganda.

IGP Gasana said that some parts of the country like Kirehe, Ngoma, Bugesera and Rubavu among others are still exposed on drugs despite the concerted efforts to weed out the commodities.

He said heroin and Cocaine are not popular in Rwanda but may be trafficked through Rwanda, a situation he said is worrying.

From 2015 to March, 2016, Rwanda has recorded 74 cases of human trafficking, 30 of which were prosecuted, 37 people arrested while six cases are being investigated.
