{President Paul Kagame has requested leaders in Rwanda to effectively accomplish their duties, acting on behalf of and to meet people’s interests as a sustainable way of keeping the development momentum that is pro-people.}
He made the call yesterday as he talked to 2000 youth during civic education dubbed ‘Inkomezamihigo’.
President Kagame said that protecting good achievements of the country is not presence of soldiers holding guns but building foundations for the future which calls for efficiency in fulfilling responsibilities at all levels.
“When you do good things, solve citizens’ problems, achievements are protected because when people are involved in solving problems and the way we interact with them and realize that you are striving in addressing their problems, that becomes a good form of security,” he said.
“When an external problem arises and you call upon members of the public to intervene, they will quickly respond knowing what they are coming to protect and what they are bound to benefit.They see what leaders do, they way they behave and perceive them as people working for people’s interests,” he said.
“When they don’t see that, everyone deals with own interests the way he/she wants and perceive activities as being implemented for the sake of a few people. When a problem arises in that case they empathize with you in solving it. It is as if they are saying wait for people who benefit to go there,” he said.
He advised the youth to concentrate on doing what benefits them and the country instead of responding to insults and false accusations.
