Darfur: Rwanda peacekeepers hand over newly constructed school fence for Noor Salaam Girls Primary School

{Rwanda peacekeepers (Rwanbatt 47) serving under the United Nations-African Union Mission in Sudan (UNAMID) handed over to the Community of Umkadada locality, Northern Darfur, a newly constructed fence at Noor Salaam Girls Primary School that hosts 463 pupils. The school is located at 185 Km East of Elfasher,the capital of Darfur.}

The project valued at 23,000 USD was conceived to support and promote girls education. It was initiated and implemented by Rwanbatt 47 and funded by UNAMID.

The UNAMID Force Commander, Lt Gen FM Kamanzi who presided over the handover ceremony commended the courage and efforts of Rwandan peacekeepers and thanked local community for cooperation. “The inauguration of this project is a sign of cooperation between the Rwandan Battalion here, UNAMID and Community of Umkadada. We thank the leadership and community of Umkadada for allowing us opportunities to contribute modestly to the education” he said.

The guest of honor Mr. Yusuf Isaak Adam, State Minister for Education in Darfur commended Rwanbatt 47 and UNAMID for initiating and implementing this program, which translates real cooperation between UNAMID and locals.

The handover ceremony was attended by delegations from the Republic of Sudan Government, UNAMID officials, peacekeepers and local communities.
