Uganda:U18 Koreans, pastor arrested over sale of expired drugs

At least 18 South Koreans have been arrested in Buhweju District after authorities found them administering expired drugs to patients.

The district police commander, Mr Ben Nuwamanya Kashumbusha, confirmed the arrest that took place last Friday in Marinde, Engaju Sub-county.

The suspects are linked to the Seventh Day Adventist faith and had reported in the area on Thursday for a crusade.

“These people came in a humble way and we even gave them security but we later found them in another unlawful business,” he said.

However, Daily Monitor could not independently verify the expired drugs in question.

According to police authorities, the suspects were arrested and detained with their coordinator, a pastor.

Mr Nuwamanya said police had opened investigations into the allegations of treating locals without clearance from authorities.

The Resident District, Mr Emmy Kateera Turyabagyenyi, appealed to the public to avoid going for free medical services provided by foreigners where they don’t see local leaders involved.
