965 complete Basic Police Course

A total of 965 recruits, on June 1 completed the 12th intake of the ‘Basic Police Course’ at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.

228 females are among those, who completed the training course.

The Minister of Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harerimana, who presided over the graduation, awarded to the graduands the rank of ‘Police Constable.’

The event was also graced by the Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, Deputy IGP Dan Munyuza of Operations and Juvenal Marizamunda of Administration and Personnel, PS ministry of internal security, Valens Munnyabagisha as well as partners, among others,

The Minister challenged the officers to be guided by the Rwanda National Police values of integrity, professionalism, nationalism community relations focus and always strive to sustain what has been achieved.

He thanked them for choosing to join police and to contribute to ensuring sustainable security.

“You are welcome to Rwanda National Police, an institution that rails on the core values that should be sustained,” Minister Harerimana said.

“Today, we are talking about Ndi Umunyarwanda (being Rwandan)at the time we are remembering our fellow innocent Rwandans who were killed during the genocide. There are those that stayed on course of being Rwandan to die for a good course, stopped the genocide and liberated this country. This is the value of Ndi Umunyarwanda that you should strive to uphold,” he said.

“This profession requires utmost integrity. You are, therefore, required to always be on the right side of the law, defend and promote the image Rwanda National Police has achieved both in and out of the country,” he added.

He noted that Rwandans have gained trust in their security institutions and urged them to add value to this image.

Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, the commandant of PTS, said that the graduands exhibited high level of discipline, determination and that they were always inquisitive to learn more.

The basic police course covered various aspects of police skills including weapon handling, maintenance of public order, community policing, cooperation, peacekeeping, among others.
