{The Governor of National Bank of Rwanda (BNR), John Rwangombwa has revealed that micro finance institutions known as Umurenge SACCO are set to embrace technology in service delivery not later than this year.}
The system is to be implemented in line with keeping the SACCOs in hah with other banks, migrating away from manual to computerized system in handling transactions. Registering SACCOs transactions manually limits the clientele access to their accounts as they can only withdraw money from the branch where a member opened an account.
During the launch of the second edition of Access to Finance Rwanda (AFR) yesterday, the governor of BNR, John Rwangombwa said that 11% of Rwandans don’t access services from banks and financial institutions. He explained that micro finance institutions contribute a lot to availing services to small scale enterprises which prompted the need to avail networking technology in the SACCOs not later than August 2016.
“We hope SACCOs in districts will have been interconnected by August 2016. Based on what is being done in technology by Access to Finance Rwanda, it will be easy to connect all of these micro finance institutions,” he said.
The director of AFR, Jean Bosco Iyacu noted that the program will put emphasis on uplifting financial institutions especially ‘Umurenge SACCO’ through the introduction of technology in the delivery of services.
