{The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr Diane Gashumba has requested Rwandans to put in more efforts in taking care of children and mothers’ health to support government policy of building strong family units. }
She made the remark yesterday in Kageyo sector of Gicumbi district during the launch of Child and Mother Health Care Week under the known as ‘integrated mother and child health week’ at national level in Gicumbi district.
Rwandans were reminded that saving the life of children and mothers must be everyone’s responsibility especially husbands.
She requested for concerted efforts in a drive of fighting against malaria which has become rampant in various parts of the country while mothers are on risks of being affected by the disease.
“We have to sustain and improve progress made in protecting children and mothers from whatever may expose their health to risks. This can only be achieved through everyone’s commitment towards solving the matter,” said the Minister.
Gashumba asked all citizens to participate in parents’ forum (Akagoroba k’Ababyeyi) as a way of coming with new insights of saving children and mothers’ lives.
The Permanent secretary Ministry of Health, Ndimubanzi Patrick said that various programs planned during the one week campaign include; mobilization of parents to have their children access all scheduled immunizations on time, awakening citizens on embracing hygiene, family planning and fighting against malaria. He reminded citizens to remove ponds and clear bushes near their homes.
The integrated mother and child health week will end on April 29th 2016.
