To celebrate the 104th UN Women’s day, IWPG hosted worldwide campaigns under the title of “Flowers of women and peace are blossomed” on March 5th and 8th.
International Women’s day had been officially designated at 1975 by the UN remembering the US women workers who were victimized by a fire in harsh work space at 1908. And it has lasted until now.
From the starting point in Seoul, South Korea, diverse women’s groups of each country voluntarily participated in these women’s day events. Not only to ask extension of women’s rights but also to present cooperating with UN and building up peace committees for demanding to enact the international law on cessation of war, IWPG’s events had a different characteristic comparing with other women events from that standpoint.
The events ran simultaneously in several places in the globe.
Among the countries, Myanmar, Thailand, Rwanda and Nigeria women groups viewed a video concerning war misery and sympathized with one another in the necessity of cessation of war. While the participants watched it, they shed tears with some scenes of crying children and victims suffering from wars. After having meaningful time, they shouted peace with a peace walk holding their pickets.
Meanwhile, on March 5th, Kigali, Rwanda cheered Burundi(-which is still having lots of conflicts-) by writing peace messages in airplanes made with yellow paper and flying them anticipating actual stability of Burundi. Also, in Yangon, Myanmar and Chiang Mai, Thailand focused on encouraging the international peace law and making harmony network among women groups by signing the WPI. And they promised to join IWPG’s peace activities affirmatively in the future.
‘Foursquare Women International (FWI)’, ‘Al-Ghiyyath Islamic Foundation’ and other organizations in Lagos, Nigeria gathered to recognize the women’s role and real value respecting peace through a discussion with the theme, ‘The meaning of the UN International Women’s Day and the role of women for the peace world‘.
The representative of the Women’s Development International Association, Egbeoluwa who attended the Nigeria women’s day stated “This event is a meeting of the love for mankind and I am so thankful for the support and lesson of IPYG to achieve world peace.”
One of the IWPG member delivered a message that all women who have religion such as Christian, Islam, and Catholic in that occasion transcended the difference in belief and became one with the spirit of Peace.
IWPG and IPYG, the affiliated group of HWPL are working together to achieve practical peace. Especially, IWPG takes a part of protecting children and youths from wars by motherly love.
