University of Rwanda students tipped on trauma handling

As starts the 22nd commemoration of genocide perpetrated against Tutsi, university students and Rwandans in general are requested to consolidate genocide survivors.

The call was made yesterday as students ay University of Rwanda, Huye campus were getting training on how to help a person affected with trauma.

These trainings held every year are organized by Talk Recovery Training Rwanda UBU (TRT- Rwanda UBU) Ltd which has mandate of teaching citizens on stress regulation, tackling trauma, healthy habits of coping and building hope.

The co-founder and director of TRT- Rwanda UBU, Jean Pierre Nadagijimana who led the training said that it takes a long process for a person affected by trauma to heal. He said that the training was meant to acquaint students with skills of helping individuals to handle trauma cases.

Ndagijimana explained that having such skills would help Rwandans especially during the period of commemorating genocide perpetrated against Tutsi.

Students who benefited from the training said that they have acquired helpful skills to support trauma affected individuals.

“I have learnt many things with regard to helping a traumatized person during commemoration period. I now have skills of approaching him/her for counseling ,” said Nicole Iraguha.

The training was held at University of Rwanda for the 3rd time. The management of TRT- Rwanda UBU Ltd says that such trainings are contributing to the reduction of trauma cases especially during commemoration periods.
