{On Friday, April 1, 2016, the United States Ambassador to Rwanda, Erica J. Barks-Ruggles, administered on the oath of office for Marcia Musisi-Nkambwe, officially swearing her in as the new Mission Director for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Rwanda. }
Outgoing Mission Director, Peter A. Malnak, concluded his term in Rwanda the same day and will begin his next assignment as Mission Director for USAID in Nepal in April.
Prior to her appointment as Mission Director, Ms. Musisi-Nkambwe served as Deputy Mission Director for USAID/Rwanda since 2013. She has worked for USAID for over 23 years in South Sudan, Nigeria, Iraq, Botswana, and regionally for USAID in Southern Africa. Ms. Musisi-Nkambwe also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sierra Leone.
She earned a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Illinois (Chicago, Illinois, USA) and a Master of Science in Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences from Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois, USA).
“Marcia not only brings a wealth of experience in Africa and international development to her new position as Mission Director,” said Ambassador Barks-Ruggles in her remarks, “but she also has significant experience and relationships in Rwanda already. She knows this country well and has already demonstrated her commitment to helping improve Rwanda’s development outcomes.”
“I’m thrilled to continue the impressive development work of USAID/Rwanda in partnership with Government of Rwanda ministries, international donors, civil society, the private sector, and Rwandan citizens,” Ms. Musisi-Nkambwe remarked. “Together, we have a shared vision of realizing a more prosperous future for all Rwandans.”
USAID is the foreign assistance agency of the United States Government. USAID allocates $150 million of development assistance annually to Rwanda, with programs in health, economic development, education, and democracy and governance.
