Newly elected grassroots leaders of Cyuve Sector in Musanze District held a meeting on April 1 to discuss and share best practices in crime prevention and community policing in general.
The meeting that brought together about 120 leaders from Cells and Villages, who automatically became members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs), was also attended by the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), Inspector of Police (IP) Viateur Ntiyamira and Cyuve Sector executive secretary, Jean Claude Manzi.
IP Ntiyamira embarked on the role of local leaders in identifying and reporting anything illegal to police, which he said that it leads to crime prevention and solving societal issues like family conflicts.
“As leaders and members of community policing committees, you should be exemplary and be significant partners in crime detection, fighting and prevention,” IP Ntiyamira told the local leaders.
“Show ability and will in whatever you do, work and built strong collaboration with the people and always be quick to share information on anything unlawful or suspicious,” he added.
He outlined drug trafficking and abuse, domestic and gender based violence, child abuse and human trafficking as some of the high impact crimes the grassroots leaders should give emphasis and raise awareness against them.
The executive secretary, Manzi echoed the same message of strong collaboration and partnership between the local leaders or CPCs, residents and security organs to leave no room for wrongdoers.
