Police takes Isange Mobile services to Rwamagana

{As part of the ongoing nationwide awareness campaign against gender based violence, Rwanda National Police relocated its Isange Mobile Clinic to Musha Sector of Rwamagana District where residents were called up to be agents in the fight against the vice that is said to be affecting families.}

Unveiled in October last year, Isange Mobile Clinic combs the countryside receiving complaints related to GBV, and uses the opportunity to raise awareness against the vice.

On March 22, a team of police officers led by Deputy Commissioner for Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Morris Muligo, while speaking to residents of Musha, noted that majority cases of GBV in their area, like in other parts of the country, are fueled by abuse of drugs.

He noted that by fighting drug abuse by reporting dealers, they will be uprooting the vice of domestic and gender based violence.

The awareness in Musha followed a number of cases of GBV in the area, which were also attributed to drug abuse.

“GBV is a high impact crime and a threat to security as it undermines basic human rights. This is why we have to address it from its causes, collectively,” ACP Muligo said.

He called upon the residents to have a shared responsibility in identifying, reporting and preventing GBV.

“ To contribute and support the national development agenda, we should collectively and effectively stop people from consuming drugs and violating others’ rights”

During the event, residents expressed gratitude to RNP for bringing them together to discuss issues that affect them and to show them better ways to address them

Residents also lined up at Isange Mobile Clinic to report injustices they face, to officers in the fully-fledged mobile clinic van.

One of them, Solange Cyimpaye said; “I thank the police for the approach they’ve used in solving our domestic issues. A while back I had problems at my home that I couldn’t solve or even share with anyone but police advised me on how to go about it and indeed we are living happily with my husband since then.”

One of the district officials, Valerie Nsenga Rubibi thanked the police and asked residents to always work closely with the police whenever they encounter a case of GBV or drug abuse.
