{Nyaruguru residents have hailed good government policies that have seen their lives getting transformed, saying they would look for hard labour jobs in the neighbouring Burundi, a situation that has now changed.}
Immaculée Nyirashumbusho, 70, resident of Ruheru sector, says they used to live in sweeping poverty which has drastically reduced since the implementation of decentralization policy, allowing citizens’ participation in governance issues.
“I am still living in Ruheru where I was born .We have started experiencing development after the genocide perpetrated against Tutsi in 1994. We were living in poverty. We could only find food when our husbands went in Burundi for hard labor. People had nicknamed us ‘Abatebo’ over living in extreme poverty.
“We no longer face food shortage, our children have access to education and we receive support to boos our activities .These development reflect good leadership of President Paul Kagame’s government that introduced decentralization, “she added.
Other women from Nyaruguru told IGIHE that they run development projects and collaborate with their husbands for the progress of the family as a result of good governance.
An officer with Action Aid, Parfaite Uwonkunda, said that Nyaruguru residents’ livelihoods have considerably improved.
Action Aid donated 25 goats to women from various cooperatives of Ruheru sector during the celebration of the international day of women as in a bid to support their economic performance.
