Women in Rusizi district say they have benefited from working in cooperatives but much more needs to be done to ensure their full participation and optimize befits. They revealed this yesterday during the celebrations to mark the International Women’s Day of Women.
“We have improved our livelihoods, subscribed to the mituelle de santé, but we are not getting sustainable financial benefits,” said Uwizera Marie Josiane one of the cooperatives member that attended the celebrations at the district headquarters.
“We help each other to breed domestic animals; we are active in family planning programs. However, we still face challenges of gaining more from cooperatives,” added Kanakuze Monique.
The vice mayor in charge of welfare in Rusizi district, Emmanuel Nsigaye revealed that a lot has to be done to support women in development.
“Progress is attained through collaboration. It is even the vision of our country for people to work in cooperatives towards better results. We are encouraging people to work closely with Business Development Fund and micro finance institutions for additional support, especially accessing credit and building their capacities,” he said.
