Government to establish economic crimes court

The National Anti Corruption Advisory Council has requested the Supreme Court to move fast in the establishment of a special court handling economic crimes to support the efforts of articulately fighting corrupt tendencies.

The matter was raised in a meeting that brought together different stakeholders in the corruption fight including the office of the ombudsman, the ministry of local government, the ministry of justice, the Supreme Court, state prosecution and national police among others. The meeting confirmed that there must be a recovery of public wealth system diverted by 877 individuals.

Regarding the finalization of court cases won by the government especially in the recovery of misappropriated government’s properties, it was confirmed that stakeholders should reinforce performance contracts to finalize court cases under their responsibilities which should be completed in collaboration with the ministry of justice that will seek professional court bailiffs for recovery.

The meet resolved to arrest those who are pursued over bribery cases and others that have so far escaped justice.

The National Anti Corruption Advisory Council was implemented to facilitate information transmission between various levels and put together efforts to address wealth accumulated as a result of misappropriation of public wealth.
