Nyaruguru upbeat about USD11 million dam construction launched yesterday

{Residents of Busanze and Cyahinda sectors in Nyaruguru district are hopeful their livelihoods will get transformed as construction of new dam in the area gets underway as they, too, plan to establish income generating projects. }

During the ground-breaking ceremony that took place yesterday in Runyombyi cell residents expressed optimism that the 2.3 Megawatt dam under the stewardship of Ngali Energy Ltd company.

“The dam is going to transform this area. We will establish small businesses that need electricity to flourish such as salons. We will no longer face power shortage to charge our phones and buy televisions,” said Innocent Baziga.

Busanze sector residents expressed delightfulness since they will get job opportunities from construction activities of the dam which they think will contribute to their welfare.

Leonard Gasana, the director of Ngali Energy Ltd company which won the tender of constructing the dam said it will be completed within 18 months. He said that they will provide job opportunities to over 3,000 people.

He has requested local leaders to identify people to work with at the construction site, with 50% reserved for women.

The mayor of Nyaruguru district, Francois Habitegeko reminded residents to maximize benefits of the dam on completion.

The dam and the road leading there to the dam will cost USD11 million.
