MIDIMAR has promised support to Gihembe refugees in solving some of the challenges most of which emanate not being registered by UNHCR.

It was revealed yesterday during the visit of MIDIMAR administration to Gihembe, refugees.

The representative of Gihembe refugee camp, Nsanzimfura Rwisumbura said that some people missed their names on the UNHCR list of 2011 since some had gone elsewhere to seek survival while others have since produced children.

He said that such children are not considered as refugees and can’t access either refugee medical or education services.

The Minister of Disaster and Refugees Management, Séraphine Mukantabana, promised that the issue of accessing food rations by refugees hosted in the camp is going to be solved.

“Another registration is going to be conducted to document all your identities facilitating you to access common services. However, you are cautioned to be careful since strangers may stream in here to get registered too,” she advised, calling on Gicumbi district leaders to closely work with UNHCR.

Gihembe refugee camp was established in 1997, accommodating Congolese refugees that number 14,000.
