Two people have drowned in Rubyiro River, Gikundwamvura sector, Rusizi district, with efforts underway to search for another missing person.
The incident took place two days ago in Mubera village of Kizura cell.
Barakaza Paulin and Nyakayira Simon drowned as they tried to cross the river, shortcutting to their homes, trying to avoid the adjacent bridge as the river flooded.
Nyakayira’s body was retrieved by residents but Barakaza, 38, is still missing.
The acting executive secretary of Gikundwamvura sector, Charles Mutabazi has appealed to all residents to use bridge instead of taking short paths.
