Ngororero head teachers urged to be part of crime prevention campaigns

Police officers in Ngororero district on February 17, met with 105 head teachers in the district and urged them to be part of the anti-crime campaigns within their schools and their communities.

During the meeting presided over by the District Police Commander (DPC), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Marc Gasangwa, the head teachers were reminded that they are very influential people in their communities and have the ability to make an impact if they join the campaigns

SSP Gasangwa also asked them to put much focus in fighting crimes like drug abuse in schools and support students’ initiatives like anti-crime clubs.

“As parents and teachers, you have a responsibility of ensuring that the students you teach turn into responsible citizens. Your efforts would go to waste if some of your students turn out to be drug addicts this is why you need to fully lead this campaign,” said the DPC.

He added that; “Your job is such a noble one this is why you need not only to get around students during class activities but also during their free time and protect them from anything that could drag them into malpractices.”

SSP Gasangwa further advised the head teachers to involve parents in some of the school meetings to ensure both parties put efforts together to ensure students are protected from engaging in consumption of narcotic drugs and other criminal activities.

The head teachers were also sensitized on the means to prevent malaria and also urged them to sensitize students on the same preventive measures.

During the same meeting, the Ngororero District Education Officer (DEO), Denis Habarurema, lauded Police’s efforts to prevent crimes in schools and elsewhere in the country.

Habarurema asked Police to conduct such meetings with other teacher that may have missed the session so that the message is spread to a wider audience.

The meeting was also attended by sector education officers.
