First Lady speaks at a National Prayer Breakfast Meeting

This meeting brought together 30-something guests, made of US congressmen and their spouses, and representatives of the Rwanda Leaders Fellowship.

This meeting included a US congressional delegation, with their spouses, which was led by Senator James M. Inhofe (from Oklahoma) in a tour across various countries, including Australia, Malawi, Ethiopia, and Rwanda.

This delegation of senators and congressmen met with representatives of the Rwanda Leaders Fellowship, as led by Reverend Antoine Rutayisire.

This fellowship meeting was highlighted by the addresses of the First Lady, Mrs Jeannette Kagame, Reverend Antoine Rutayisire, and Senator James Inhofe.

In her remarks, the First Lady emphasised that in our current times of instability and acts of ‘senseless violence’, such a practice of communal fellowship among leaders is fundamentally relevant and needed in this quest for putting an end to the various threats faced by communities all over the world. The First Lady also talked about the importance of creating strong relationships, the kind that ‘stand the test of time and the challenges our nations will face along the way.’

Reverend Antoine Rutayisire opened the meeting with The Lord’s Prayer, explaining that this prayer teaches everyone the right way of living together, in the spirit of Jesus Christ. Reverend Rutayisire also explained the reasoning behind their gathering under the Rwanda Leaders Fellowship saying that coming together as brothers and sisters allows them to devise the different ways they can make lives better in our communities.

While addressing the guests, Senator Inhofe who has been to Rwanda on several occasions talked about the inspiring story of rebirth of this nation. He went on to emphasise the importance of this kind of gatherings, saying they are more important that political affiliations as meeting for a higher purpose grants them the opportunity to accomplish great things through this fellowship spirit.

Other members of this delegation expressed their gratitude for the warm hospitality they experienced since their arrival, pointing out that meeting new brothers and sisters during this several-country tour allows people to learn from each other as ‘iron sharpens iron’; see the commonalities between different cultures; but also make the world smaller, and safer.

This delegation’s trip in Rwanda carried on with a meeting with His Excellency President Paul Kagame and a visit to the Gisozi Genocide Memorial before their departure for Ethiopia that same day.
