Kagame receives UNIDO boss

President Paul Kagame has held talks with the Director General of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Li Yong, at his office in Urugwiro with whom they discussed industrial development in Rwanda.

Li Yong signed agreements with the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM) aimed at promoting industrial development and contribution to employment, foreign exchange earnings and welfare of citizens.

Talks between Li Yong and President Kagame revolved around the scale of industrial progress in relation to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Li Yong said that UNIDO support will be directed towards building capacities and mobilizing investors to take the opportunity of Rwanda’s enabling industrial environment.

“UNIDO doesn’t offer loans. However it helps to plan, elaborate and build policies and plans which can enable a country to seek aid from developed countries and donors to for the implementation of these plans,” he said.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, François Kanimba said that the visit of Yong brings more hope for the development of industries in Rwanda and Africa in general.
Kanimba further said that the signed agreements will support the current industrial policy in Rwanda.

“The signed agreements will help in implementing Rwanda’s industrial policy as we shall borrow a leaf from the vast expertise and experience that come with UNIDO interventions,” he said.

Li Yong will also visit the industrial park in Masoro, Gasabo district, where he is will hold talks with POSITIVO BGH, accompany that assembles laptops, C &H, manufacturers of textile and STRAWTEC, producers of construction materials.

Li Yong has been leading UNIDO for two years a plan to demonstrate during the upcoming United Nations Summit, the 10 year plan of African industries development.
