Electric cables worth Rwf 200 million stolen in two years

{Rwanda Energy Group (REG) has lost to vandalism, copper aluminum and electric cables worth Rwf 200 million in the last two years, the Director General Jean Bosco Mugiraneza has revealed. He attributed theft to the price increase of materials made of copper and aluminum. }

While talking to media, Mugiraneza said that some of the stolen materials have been sold in Rwanda, others outside the country.

“Some thieves were caught. But even those not yet caught are being tracked by the security personnel,” he said.

Mugiraneza said that within past five years, the theft of electrical installations has been recorded 500 times explaining that robbers of such materials have knowledge in electricity.

REG requests all citizens to collaborate to maintain electricity installations and and eliminate theft.
