{In a familiarization tour to Rusizi district, Members of Parliament visited various projects some of which were noted to be operating in poor hygiene. One such project is the Kamembe Butchery which MPs recommended for closure henceforth as modern facilities’ construction gets underway. }
In a recent interview with IGIHE correspondent recently, workers at the butchery attributed poor hygiene to the absence of basic slaughter-house facilities and so the slaughtering in a rudimentary manner.
The MPs advised Rusizi district local leaders to temporarily relocate the operators to another place as a new facility is being upgraded to overcome the deplorable hygiene conditions.
“The poor hygiene of the butchery doesn’t match with hygiene standards we want for Rwandans. The solution is that the district advisory committee seeks a place from where they will be operating provisionally,’ said the vice president of parliamentary chamber of deputies, Abbas Mukama.
The deputy mayor of Rusizi district in charge of social welfare, Emmanuel Nsigaye, confirmed the closure of the butchery and relocation.
It is five years since people operating in the butchery of Rusizi were promised to get a modern one at Muhari for which they have waited in vain.
