Lt Gen Frank Mushyo Kamanzi takes over as UNAMID Force Commander

Lt Gen F M Kamanzi newly appointed as United Nations African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) arrived this Thursday morning 21 January 2016, at UNAMID Headquarters, El Fasher to take over office as Force Commander. He was received by Military Parade and UNAMID high ranking Military and Civilians Personnel.

December 14 last year, Lt General Kamanzi was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and African Union Commission Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma to succeed Lieutenant General Paul Ignace Mella of Tanzania, who completed his assignment on 31 December 2015.

General Kamanzi holds this position as second Rwandan UNAMID Force Commander after General Patrick Nyamvumba currently RDF Chief of Defence Staff, who held the position for 4 years (2009 -2013).

Rwanda maintains three Infantry Battalions, Military Observers, and Police staffs in United Nations Mission in Darfur.
