{About 120 members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) from Boneza Sector in the Rutsiro District held a meeting on January 11, in which they were reminded to actively enhance community policing initiatives like neighborhood watch to prevent crimes.}
Speaking to the members of community policing committees, the District Community Liaison Officer Inspector of Police (IP) Jerome Nsabuwera reminded them to focus on crime detection and prevention.
IP Nsabuwera noted that security shouldn’t be left to RNP alone but to the community, which should act vigilantly by providing timely information to Police in order to avert crime, a responsibility the CPCs share.
“We all want total security to ensure that every person living in Rwanda and their property are protected. We must double our efforts and further, create a good partnership with residents and tighten night patrols to give no space to criminals,” IP Nsabuwera said.
As a way to further maintain security in Rutsiro and the country in general, IP Nsabuwera urged the participants to identify possible criminals, analyze and report all suspicious activities that may cause insecurity.
One of the attendants, Emmanuel Sinumvayo, commended RNP for imparting more skills to CPCs to enable them carry out their activities more professionally and efficiently.
He urged his colleagues to endeavor to cooperate with Police and residents in a timely manner through the provision of any information that will help to combat crimes.
“Police has enabled us to work efficiently in sustaining the peace of our community. We should work together and avoid indulging in activities like drunkenness which affect our work and reputation,” he said.
Community policing has gained momentum in recent years as RNP and community leaders search for more effective ways to promote public safety.
Over 140,000 members of CPCs have so far been trained across the country.
