The Rutsiro District Advisory Council yesterday received the resignation letter from the official who was arrested in December 2015 over alleged bribery cases.
The Rutsiro district Mayor, Byukusenge Gaspard, told IGIHE that they have received the resignation letter.
The spokesperson of Rwanda National Prosecution Authority, Nkusi Faustin, has told IGIHE that Murenzi suspected of taking bribes has not broken the law for having resigned while under custody.
“He is being held in 1930 prison over bribery related crimes. He has not broken any law for tendering in his resignation,” he said.
Nkusi further said that Murenzi’s file has not yet been handed to the court since the investigations are still ongoing.
