One is the Textile giant, Sunflag Tanzania Limited located in Themi Hills Industrial area, which was found to breach labour regulations, including compromised safety environment at work place as well as having employees without working contracts.

The deputy minister, who is on tour of industries here, slapped a fine of 28.6 million/- on Sunflag and another 32 million/- to Lodhia Industries, which has plastic and metal manufacturing divisions.

The two factory’s establishments were also discovered to house a number of foreign workers whose permits spelled different types of occupation contrary to the exact jobs they were doing.

The Human Resources Manager at Lodhia Industries, Mr Martin Mukande, while seemingly lost for words regarding permits for alien workers, explained the issue of overworking employees as being the result of power cuts forcing the establishment to bill extra hours to keep the factory’s activities and economy afloat.

Sunflag’s Head of Human Resources Emmanuel Mgoma added that the issue of noncontracted workers affected only interns and apprentices who are there to learn skills before being taken aboard on full pensionable employment.

The deputy minister’s inspection tour here continues and it is understood that he also visited A to Z Textile Mills and Unga Limited.
