Bugesera residents are worried over the ruined bridge connecting Marebe sector and others from Bugesera district resulting in the temporary closure of the road connecting five sectors.
The destruction of the road has affected residents where transport costs have been raised for people heading for the large market of Ruhuha.
One of the residents told the media that distances to Nyamata town, Kigali and other neighboring districts have increased since they are now using Kamabuye –Ruhuha road.
“The destruction of Rwabusoro and Marena bridges have affected us since the cost on motorcycle transport has risen from Rwf 1000 to Rwf 1500,” he said.
The road which connected Nyamata-Ruhuha and other five sectors has been temporarily closed.
Rwagaju Louis , the mayor of Bugesera district says they have suspended the use of the road temporary and requested Rwanda Road Maintenance Fund to rehabilitate the bridge. He added that the fund promised to mend the bridge not later than 15th January, 2015.
Rwagaju noted that between 50 and 100 cars use the closed road as well as free movements of people from various regions. He revealed that the delay in bridge repair could jeopardize the economic development of Bugesera district.
The destruction of Mareba bridge follows two more bridges of Rwabusoro and Gashora bordering with Bugesera district damaged at the end of 2014 but have since been rehabilitated.
