{The Rwanda National Police handball club was yesterday crowned the champions of the East and Central Africa Handball tournament that ended in Kigali, after beating APR, also from Rwanda, 32-23 in the finals.

With a dominant lead right from the beginning, the Police team finished first half with a 17-14 lead. The rhythm remained the same even in the second have as police instilled fierce attacks 15 more goals, enough to give them their first regional silverware.
Jean Baptiste Habimana and John Muhwawenayo scored 8 goals each while In the Gilbert Mutuyimana was the tournament’s top-scorer with 13 goals.
The National Handball League champions started a taste of their victory a day before by brushing aside Black Mamba of Kenya 32-25 in their opening match.
“I am happy for the team’s performance. We have been successful locally and this is building further confidence as we look to be even stronger in other regional and continental tournaments,” Police coach, AIP Antoine Ntabanganyimana, said.
Police is the most successful local club having won all the seven local competitions in 2014, retaining six of them in the following 2015 season including third consecutive national league cup.
