PS Imberakuri favours ‘yes’ vote in upcoming referendum

{More than 800 members of PS Imberakuri have expressed readiness to vote ‘yes’ during the forthcoming referendum and called on all Rwandans to do the same.}

PS Imberakuri is one of the Rwandan political parties that have supported constitutional amendments of mainly article 101 that relates to presidential term limits. The reform was preceded by Rwandans petitions to parliament requesting the amendment of article 101. The amended article includes the reduction of a presidential term from seven to five years, renewable once. The five-year mandate will be preceded by a seven-year term for the winner of 2017 presidential elections.

In an interview with IGIHE, Mukabunani Christine, the President of PS Imberakuri, noted that the political party she leads encourages its members to vote in favor of the upcoming referendum since it has been occasioned by a majority of citizens who petitioned the constitutional reform.

She argues that the process of amending the constitution passed through a legal process which has resulted into her requesting members to vote ‘yes’.

“We have followed up the process of constitutional amendments. Everything was transparent and laws were respected, ”she said.

The Rwanda National Electoral Commission has said all Rwandans will have been informed about reforms made in the constitution before the scheduled date of referendum since senators and parliamentarians are touring the country creating awareness on constitutional changes.

PS Imberakuri is a registered political party in Rwanda.
