Former Rwanda diplomat arrested in Burundi

{Burundi intelligence organs last week arrested former Rwanda ambassador to Belgium and France Jacques Bihozagara. }

Burundi intelligence office has told APF that Bihozagara was arrested on Friday 4th December alleging him to be a Rwandan spy.

This has been revealed by one of Burundi intelligence officials who requested anonymity.

According to sources, Bihozagara who was the Minister of Disaster Management and Refugee affairs is imprisoned in Rohero, Bujumbura.

The Rwandan ambassador in Burundi, Rugira Amandin, has confirmed to IGIHE that Bihozagara is under arrest.

Fidèle Munyeshyaka, the first secretary of Rwandan embassy in Bujumbura said that they received information on the arrest of Bihozagara but reasons of his arrest were not stated.

Burundi has been in heated conflicts since the Burundi ruling political party confirmed president Nkurunziza as presidential candidate who won elections later in July 2015.
