{The Minister of Local Government, Francis Kaboneka has called on local leaders to desist from violation of ordinary citizens’ rights and misappropriation of VUP funds for the government will not hesitate penalizing any such culprits.}
Kaboneka conveyed the message yesterday during a meeting that brought together sector executive secretaries from across the country where they also narrated challenges in the process of delivering services.
“We have discussed with them to show full commitment to service delivery in a transparent and professional way which they have pledged to observe,” he said.
The leaders were reminded to involve ordinary citizens in taking decisions that affect them in a participative community development approach.
Sector executive secretaries promised to take the advice which will be reflected in improved quality and efficiency in the delivery of services.
Niyonsaba Cyriaque, the executive secretary for Rugende sector in Karongi district, said that they normally deliver good performance but are now more focused on involving local communities in planning and implementation of projects.
The two-day closed meeting aimed at giving tips to local leaders on leadership that engages citizens in sustainable development.
