Gorilla Feed launches in Kigali

Korean investors have launched animal feeds processing industry, Gorilla Feed, expected to produce over 600 tons per month as an effort to boost animal husbandry through improved production and reproduction.

During the official launch ceremony yesterday, Dr. Louis Butare , the director general of Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB) said that the industry will solve many problems.
“The industry will avail animal feeds at affordable price as raw materials will be from within Rwanda. This will increase animal productivity and reduce costs spent on foreign purchase of animal feeds,” he said.

Mukashefu Elise a resident of Busogo sector in Musanze, says the industry will promote animal production and saving them the burden of making animal feeds that were substandard.

Kivuye Janvier, the managing director of Gorilla Feed also says that the shortage of animals feeds will be pragmatically addressed.
“We make 6 tons per hour which means we can process 600 monthly tons. We produce for chicken, goats, pigs and cattle. We are planning to produce fish feeds as well.”
Alex Ruzibukira the, Director General of Industry and Entrepreneurship in the ministry of trade and industry lauded the initiative, with anticipation it will contribute to national development.
“We have four industries producing animal feeds. It envisages a bright vision since such industries will contribute to the country’s economy,”he said.

He further revealed that industries contribute about 14% to the country’s GDP which is a good development gesture.

Gorilla Feed will operate in Kicukiro district and will contribute to Rwanda’s economic development since 85% of raw materials will be part of cereals grown in Rwanda.
