Kenya intensifies security ahead Pope’s visit

{Kenya plans to deploy ten thousands police personnel to reinforce security over upcoming visit of Pope Francis at the end of November, declared Kenya officials while Nairobi Capital gets ready to host roughly one million visitors. }

According to Jeune Afrique journal, the state house spokesperson Manoah Episu declared that ‘Provisionally 10000 police personnel will be deployed’ adding that 10000 members of National Youth Service attached to the government will help police to manage the crowd.

“Security agencies continue to improve the situation to secure the city during the period in which the increase of one million people awaits Nairobi population” Indicated Manoah.

Pope Francis will be in Kenya from 25th to 27th November before visiting Uganda and Central African Republic where his visit in Africa will take end on 30th November, according to an itinerary released by Vatican.

These three countries have strong catholic communities; however they face violence and murder tensions that can imply threats to Pope Security during his visit.

Kenya faces Somali rebels, Alshabab which multiplied bloody attacks in the country including killings at Garissa University (Eastern region) which left 148 deaths and Westgate attack in Nairobi in 2013 leaving 67 deaths.

Pope Francis will visit Kangemi slum counting almost 100000 habitants among which 20000 belongs to the local catholic parish.

In July Kenya received US president Barack Obama under high security surveillance. Hundreds of American security personnel locked the Nairobi controlled by Military helicopters.

Contrary to the visit of Barack Obama of which the government had advised Kenyans to stay at their households ‘We encourage Kenyans to head for the city to cheer and celebrate the mass with him “declared the spokesperson of the office of the presidency.

According to local clerics, almost the third of Kenyan population are Catholic Church Christians translated into 14 among 44 million persons. Nevertheless, other estimations prove that catholic christians would represent the fifth of the population.
