Gen Kabarebe unveils challenges of Rwandan culture

{The Minister of Defense, Gen James Kabarebe unveiled challenges affecting Rwandan culture yesterday during the opening of the 8th Annual Forum of the Unity Club at the Parliamentary Building in Kimihurura.}

Gen Kabarebe said that the impact of colonialism has culminated among challenges of Rwandan culture. As he said Rwandans faced forced labor by the time they were leaving the country to cultivate tea, extracting mine among other slave works while neighboring countries were on development rise.
“Rwandan culture was declining while other countries were developing.”He said.

Gen Kabarebe noted that after forced labor exerted on Rwandans, the country fell in devastation.

Rwandans faced various light situations including mass exodus of natives and other serious problems that led to the preparation and execution of Genocide perpetrated against Tutsi.

During the post Genocide period , many people returned in the country while the bond of unity had been uprooted ahead of adapting foreign cultures of countries in which they had grown. He noted adding that refugee status affected Rwandans to the extent that every difficult situation brings horror and willing to flee the country.

Gen Kabarebe said that escaping the country has become a culture since a leader found guilty thinks about alternatives of running away and added that it is a serious issue that should be addressed through accepting sanctions of their offenses.

Talking to the matter, Minister of local government, Kaboneka Francis said that reconciling people repatriating from various countries including genocide survivors and perpetrators proves that the pact of friendship is still upheld between Rwandan individuals

He argues that reconciliation attained anticipates reconstruction of national values to restore friendship pact in Rwandan society.
