{The Ministry of Family and Gender Promotion (MIGEPROF) has expressed delightfulness for the increase of number of women’ engagement in professional journalism. }
The ministry attributes attained step to the advocacy of encouraging them to become passionate journalists.
According to the permanent secretary in MIGEPROF, Umulisa Henriette many achievements await women based on men’ outreaching number in journalism career compared to women.
Umulisa Henriette, the permanent secretary in MIGEPROF argues that it is a great value to have an increased number of women in media industry.
“We express gratefulness to the government of Rwanda for allowing women to demonstrate their capacity. Women rarely covered events in the past, however the situation has improved. In coming days we expect women participation in media industry to reach 64% representation of the parliament.” She said adding that talks the Association of Rwandese Female Journalists (ARFEM) held between female journalists to increase their voice and participation in the media promise suitable outcomes.
Ingabire Egidie Bibio, representative of ARFEM also acknowledges that women have made a commendable step. She said that 84 members of the association envisages improvement compared to the past where a media house could have only one woman.
Egide Bibio declared that sensitization to reduce the number of women diverting from journalism career had a great impact on shaping their perceptions.
She requests women to participate in various sections of news instead of concentrating themselves on soft news to demonstrate their capacity in the dissemination of credible information.
