Muhanga: 2000 households to access safe water

{Japan embassy in Rwanda has built a water canal in Muhanga district expected to reach 2000 households.}

The water canal has been constructed on partnership between Japan embassy and ARDE/KUBAHO association. During the handover ceremony citizens have been reminded to uphold infrastructures since they are expensive.

Tomiya Sakamoto, advisor in Japan embassy in Rwanda explained how interesting the project is to improve livelihoods of beneficiaries.

As Tomiya stated, extricating from unsafe water will prevent dirtiness related diseases. “I am pleased with the project’s contribution to eradicate dirtiness related diseases you have been experiencing. I hope it will also facilitate long journey parents used to walk heading for distant water taps.” Said Tomiya.

She appreciated perfect implementation of the project and concluded that Japan will sustain long term partnership with Rwanda to develop social welfare activities, hygiene, sanity and agriculture as well.

Paul Murenzi, head of ARDE/KUBAHO project says that apart from 2000 household that will have access to constructed five water kiosk, the project plans to build watering places to facilitate breeders of domestic animals.

Paul added that residents have been trained as volunteers to look over project’s infrastructures.

To distribute water among residents of the region, a new plan has been released in partnership with WASAC to widen the project.

Talking on the new facilities of the project, the executive secretary of Muhanga district Celse Gasana revealed that the district has implemented plans to expand safe water to all citizens to improve well being.

The water canal construction took over Rwf 84 million including 95,000US$ donated by Japan embassy.
