Over 200 social entrepreneurs have responded to Tigo’s call to become ‘Digital Changemakers’.
The annual Digital Changemakers Competition, run in partnership with non-profit organization, Reach for Change is a step closer to its search for two digital social entrepreneurs who have solutions to some of the pressing issues facing children and communities today.In its 4th year the competition set yet another record with 488 registered applications as well as 256 qualifying for the 2nd round.
Speaking about the selection process, Mrs Chantal Umutoni, Deputy CEO, Tigo Rwanda said: “In this 4th year of the Digital Changemakers competition, we have received a strong growth in entries and we see this as a sign that social entrepreneurship is booming in Rwanda .
Mrs Umutoni continued: “We have received great feedback from several social entrepreneurs who are in need of tech and financial support to either start up their business or scale up. In the coming weeks, an expert panel including Tigo staff will review all applications and shortlist the best entries of this 4th edition of the Tigo Digital Changemakers competition.”
Two winners will each win a prize of Rwf 14 Million as well as expert guidance and support to implement their ideas.
Tigo Digital Changemakers is a partnership between mobile network operator, Tigo Rwanda and international non-governmental organisation, Reach for Change. So far five Changemakers have been supported by the programme and have impacted the lives of over 46,000 Rwandan children since 2012.
Tigo recently unveiled its refreshed brand image and a new slogan, ‘Live it, Love it’, as part of its efforts to connect even more strongly with its customers.
