Edward Maly joins as the new UNICEF Representative in Rwanda

{Mr. Edward Maly today assumed his duties as the new UNICEF Representative to Rwanda. As a development and emergency specialist, he has more than 20 years of experience working for the rights of children and women around the world.}

As the new UNICEF Representative, Mr. Maly, presented his credentials to Ambassador Jeanine Kambanda, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, at her office in Kigali.

In the meeting, Mr Maly reaffirmed UNICEF’s continued support to the Government of Rwanda for improving the lives of Rwandan children.

Prior to his arrival in Rwanda, Mr Maly served as Senior Advisor in the Public Partnerships Division of UNICEF’s New York Headquarters, managing UNICEF’s relationship with the governments of the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. In this role, he guided UNICEF Regional and Country Offices to enhance programming, advocacy and partnerships.

Before joining UNICEF, Mr. Maly served at the United States Mission to the United Nations in New York and with USAID based in Nairobi, Kenya and in Washington. He also worked for several years with refugee populations in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. He brings with him rich experience in planning and leading development programmes and humanitarian assistance.

Mr. Maly, a national of the United States, holds a Master’s Degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Latin and English from University of California, Los Angeles.
