The Zambia government has allegedly stopped paying rent for the country’s former First Lady, Dr Christine Kaseba-Sata, leading to her eviction, privately-owned daily, The Post, reported Wednesday.
Dr Kaseba-Sata is the widow of former President Michael Sata.
President Sata died in a London hospital last October.
This is not the first time that a Zambian government was being caught up in a scenario of possible neglect of a former first lady.
The late Levy Mwanawasa’s widow, Maureen, also complained openly of the treatment she got from the husband’s former ruling party, the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, over financial support.
Official comment
“The government has stopped paying rentals for Michael Sata’s family, leading to the eviction of former First Lady Dr Christine Kaseba from 8 Reedbuck Lodge where she had been residing since leaving State House,” The Post reported.
“Dr Kaseba has since moved to her mother’s house in Libala, which is located behind Break Point Night Club.”
Libala is a lower tier residential area located a few kilometres from the Lusaka city centre.
The paper quoted unnamed senior government officials as confirming the development.
There was no official comment from government on the matter, although it was raised in parliament Tuesday.
