Italian, American peacekeeping experts in #Rwanda for training

{A team of American and Italian trainers is set to begin a pre-deployment training for Formed Police Units and commanders, as Rwanda National Police (RNP) continues to bolster its peacekeeping readiness and capabilities. }

The Italian experts headed by Major Luigi Marano are from the Italian Centre of Excellence for Stability Police Units (CoESPU), while the American experts are headed by Michael Guyer.

The training attended by 25 participants, will last for one month from June 15 and will be conducted at Police Training School in Gishari.

While receiving the trainers, ACP Jimmy Hodari, Commissioner for Peace Support Operations, noted that it is a continuation of the RNP training tradition to promote efficiency and professionalism.

“This training conducted by experienced trainers is a sign of trust and confidence that RNP has in you. It intends to enhance and provide capacity for robust Formed Police Units to perform efficiently within their mission areas,” ACP Hodari told participants.

“The trainers are experienced and professional – therefore – I have no doubt that you will gain skills, expertise and technical knowledge beyond what you already have,”

The FPUs that will be trained are scheduled for peacekeeping operations under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

“The expert trainers will offer FPUs the required mentorship and skills development prior to being deployed for peacekeeping operations. I urge you – trainees – to explore this opportunity and fulfill all requirements, so that at the end of this course we should have competent FPU personnel who can train extent the skills to others,” he said.

RNP’s trend is to train and increase the number of FPU contingents and their capacities by excelling in various skills and knowledge levels required for professional performance in peacekeeping mission areas.
