Nyamagabe crime preventers urged to reinforce initiatives against crime

Over 250 members of District Administration Security Support Organ (DASSO) and Community Policing Committees in Nyamagabe District joined together to pledge strong commitment to carry out their duties aimed at fostering safety and security.

The sensitization meeting held in Ngiryi Cell, Gasaka Sector on May 19, also attracted police officers operating in the district, as well as residents and local leaders.

The Executive Secretary of Gasaka Sector, John Bayingana, said that in order to reinforce community policing initiatives, Rwanda National Police policing partners in crime prevention need to double their efforts and serve to the expectations of the residents.

“cooperation has enabled Rwanda to have safety and security. This peace should be sustained by closely working together and sharing information in a timely manner,” he said.

“Let us work with integrity and perform responsibilities aimed at reinforcing laws and instructions taken in connection with security. Always facilitate one another whenever called upon and do not be lured into conniving with law breakers.”

The District Liaison Officer of Nyamagabe, Inspector of Police Ignace Nuwayo, commended the work of DASSO and CPCs, and urged them to devise initiatives to overcome lawbreakers including drug dealers, human traffickers among others.

“By focusing more on security issues and overcoming them, you will reassure the people that your work is very important in fostering the safety of their lives and property,” he said.

“Work with zeal and patriotism and ensure that law breakers and those who want to cause harm are apprehended and punished.”

One of the CPCs, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, Benoit Sibomana, welcomed the initiative by Rwanda National Police to train them and provide them with equipment that they use in their operations.

He also pledged to provide services with integrity as required of CPCs, and to work together with police by sharing timely information that enables successful operations against criminals.
