
{The Embassy of Rwanda in France has on Saturday April 18, 2015 at 15pm joined the Rwandan community in Nantes and Subiruseke a locally based association composed of French and Rwandan nationals to pay tribute to victims of Genocide against Tutsi. At this occasion, around fifty participants gathered at Pont Anne de Bretagne and laid a wreath in La Loire River in honor and solidarity with lives lost during the genocide.}
At this occasion, the Embassy’s First Secretary Mr. Yves Muneza who represented the Ambassador, Mme Martine Rondeau chairperson of Subiruseke and Mme Amelie Schafer Mutarabayire President Founder of the association paid tribute to the victims. They all expressed their solid commitment regarding perpetuation of memory and mobilise more strength so that genocide does not happen anymore anywhere in the world.
The first secretary-Yves Muneza recalled that the embassy’s presence is an expression of solidarity to genocide victims. He underlined the fact that the dark history of genocide is a lesson of bravery and dignity for humanity and that the Rwandan government has vowed to pursue genocide perpetrators and work to ensure that it never happens anymore.
The president of Subiruseke Martine Rondeau, Amelie Schafer Mutarabayire the founder President and Ibuka- France founder President Esperance Brossard highlighted the importance of memory sites and endeavors to work with the municipality to get a place in the city of Nantes that can accommodate a memorial stone.
A candle lighting moment and a debate over ‘talking genocide trauma’ by Mme Marie Audile Godard and Amelie Mutarabayire were held at Nantes Municipality’s hall.
The Embassy of Rwanda notes with satisfaction that about 50 people bringing together Rwandans, survivors, friends of Rwanda and members of the French civil society turned up in solidarity to genocide victims.
