Gicumbi: Man arrested for defiling 14 year old

{Police has apprehended a 32-year old man in Gicumbi District for allegedly defiling a 14-year old girl. }

The suspect, Samuel Bapfakurera, resident of Karambo Cell, Nyamiyaga Sector, is currently detained at Byumba Police Station as further investigations commence while the victim was rushed to Byumba Hospital for medical examination.

Bapfakurera, a casual work at the victim’s home, allegedly committed the offence on March 22 when he trounced on her in the Kitchen.

Chief Inspector of Police, André Hakizimana, Police spokesperson for Northern Province, said they received the unfortunate information from area residents.

“We got information from citizens through community policing and we arrested the suspect. We call upon the general public to partner with Police in confronting these terrible sexual acts, but also call upon parents and guardians to be more watchful.”

He noted that Rwanda National Police has taken tough measures to fight sexual related crimes and gender based violence and called on residents to be part of the fight against the crime by sensitizing their communities about the challenge and also reporting suspects in time.

“Children are the future generation of the country; it is therefore paramount that they are protected. Rwandans and especially the parents should allocate substantial time for their children and improve parental care in order to prevent and deter the occurrences of such incidents,” he said.
