Angola: The Great Lakes Meeting Focuses on Financial Situation

({{Prensa Latina}}) {The financial situation that prevails today in the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) dominated the 10th regular session of the Ministerial Committee of the organization, in session here for two days.

During the closing speech of the event, the Angolan Foreign Minister, Georges Chikoty stated that they are worried about how the ICGLR faces serious challenges, especially in the monetary order to realize priorities in the action plan.

He argued that such a scenario prevails for the arrears of Member States, which event committed the activities scheduled for 2015.

According to a final communique of the meeting, participants also praised the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for their efforts to eliminate rebel negative forces in the East.

They called to speed up the implementation of the Nairobi Declaration and the voluntary repatriation of the veterans of the M23 Movement from Uganda and Rwanda.

The message indicates that the audience accepted the invitation of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of South Sudan to visit that country and verify the scene on the ground.

They also supported the request to hold a special summit on that country.

Similarly was also adopted a report submitted by Burundi on its internal situation and took note about the security and humanitarian environment in the Central African Republic (CAR).

In this regard, Chicoty noted that the problem of insecurity and instability in CAR in eastern DRC and South Sudan, and the growing terrorist threat in Africa and the world, requires strengthening mechanisms for regional alert.

Angola assumed the rotating presidency of the ICGLR during the V Summit of the organization held in this city from January 10 to 15, 2014.

The Conference, created in 1994,is made up of Angola, Burundi, CAR, DRC, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
