Delay in Members Contributions could lead ICGLR into failing

{{Luanda}} —{ Irregular financial contributions by several member countries of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) has affected the performance of several tasks by the organisation, Angop learned Tuesday in Luanda .}

The information was released by the ICGLR assistant executive secretary, Vicente Muanda.

The official was speaking on the fringes of the meeting of the national coordinators preparing the 10th Ordinary Session of the ICGLR’s Inter-ministerial Committee.

Vicente Muanda said on the occasion Angola has been exemplary in making its financial contributions.

The official appealed to the member countries to make their contributions in order for the organisation to perform efficiently and plan and implement its activities, including the development of projects and programmes.

He said failure to comply with the contribution requirement could lead the organisation into failing, as the Development Fund approved in 2007 has been meeting with difficulties in its implementation.

On the other hand, Vicente Muanda informed that until the nomination of a the new executive secretary for the organisation, a roadmap will be approved to guide the regional body.

The source added that the meeting will review the Report on the Special Fund for Development, the state of the member countries contributions and the executive secretary’s replacement roadmap.

The Republic of Angola, through its president, José Eduardo dos Santos, is since 15 January 2014 in charge of the ICGLR chair.

The creation of the ICGLR followed the political conflicts that marked the Great Lakers Region in 1994, and the realisation of the need for a combined effort to promote peace and development in the region.

The organisation comprises Angola, Burundi, Central Africa Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Repblic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
