{In a bid to protect citizens against unsafe medicine, Police conducted an operation on February 14, that resulted in the arrest of an individual with a stock of tablets, including Dipyron, Paracetamol, tetracycline and Lumartem.

The woman identified as Consolee Mukamuhizi had packed the medicine in cups and was illegally selling them to residents in Ngoma DistrictAccording to the Police Spokesperson of the Eastern Province, Inspector of Police (IP), Emmanuel Kayigi, the woman did not have legal documents allowing her to sell medicine or documents indicating the safety of the medicine she was distributing.
She is currently held at Zaza Police Station as further investigations are conducted.
“The manner in which she sold this medicine was dangerous and unsafe, while she is not also a recognized medical practitioner. Police calls upon the public to always seek for medical care from qualified personnel and also verify the expiry date of the medicine they get,” he said.
He also called upon the public to provide Police with timely information on illegal activities such as these in order to ensure the safety of the public against harmful substances.
