{The U.S. special envoy to Africa’s Great Lakes region Russ Feingold has said his country was “somewhat disappointed” that strikes against the FDLR have still not begun.}
Speaking at a news conference in the capital Kinshasa, Feingold reiterated the United States’ Support to fight against FDLR.
The Congolese military promised to push the FDLR out of the eastern part of the country after the rebel group failed to meet a deadline to disarm last month.
However, a dispute over the inclusion of Congolese forces, with allegedly shady human right records, in the military operation against the FDLR has kept the DRC forces from launching a coordinated offensive against the rebels.
The UN reportedly objects to the inclusion of the Congolese soldiers.
Meanwhile Russ Feingold said the U.S. supports operations against the rebel group formally announced by the Congolese army nearly two weeks ago.
Feingold said he was confident a solution would be found.
