{Over one hundred Somali Diaspora community attended on Monday (January 12) a conference in Kigali, Rwanda. Co-organized by the Department of Diaspora Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of the Government of Somalia, African Union (AMISOM) in close association with the ACCORD agency of South Africa, the conference dwells on ways how to help Somali Diaspora community engage in the reconstruction of Somalia.}

The conference was attended by the Special Representative of the AU to Somalia, Ambassador Maman Sidikou, Director-General of the Foreign Affairs of Rwanda, Parfait Gahamanyi, Head of Accord agency, Welile Nhlapo and Chief of the Presidential Palace of Somalia, Hassan Abdullahi. Ambassador Maman Sidikou noted that “The reason as to why this meeting was held in Rwanda is that Rwanda has seen many challenges which they managed to cross over and it is now among the best developing countries in Africa at a same time it is a country where Somali government and its people can get experience from.”
Director General of Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Parfait Gahamanyi, expressed that the Government of Rwanda was appreciative of hosting such an important conference in Kigali, adding that this would expedite and deepen the relationship between the two nations. This three-day conference helps delegates exchange views on a wide range of issues in terms of Somali’s Diaspora Policy and ways to help engage the Somali Diaspora community residing in Kigali in the process of nation building efforts.
