M23 Chief Negotiator Resigns

{The chief negotiator of the Congolese former rebel M23 announced his resignation Saturday, January 10, which could further complicate a little more the process of normalization between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the movement. }

The Movement of March 23 released to the press the letter dated January 10, by which René Abandi present to the President of his movement, Bertrand Bisimwa his resignation as Coordinator for the implementation of the Nairobi declarations on behalf of M23.

The rebellion was militarily defeated in November 2013 and the rest of his fighters fled to Rwanda and Uganda.

The M23 and Kinshasa have signed peace agreement in Nairobi under the auspices of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and the Development Community of Southern Africa (SADC).

According to these statements, the M23 has confirmed that it renounced rebellion to defend only by political means its main demands, including the defense of Rwandan-speaking populations of the eastern DRC, which it deplores marginalized.

In his letter, Mr Abandi accuses Kinshasa to refuse to implement the agreement of Nairobi.
